PRs and NomNoms

This weekend I spent most of my time in the box, making Paleo amazing-ness, and switching between the Liftetime Movie Network, HGTV, TLC, and Discovery. I’m like an old woman.

Weekend WODS:
Saturday-
“Pulling Fran” with my purple band and 155# DLs (7:15)
3min max wall balls
3min max GHD situps
3 rounds
-10 man makers (20# dumbbells)
-40 weighted lunges (45#)
-10 toes2bar

Sunday-

Max bench (140#…10# PR!)

This weekend, I wore my “Nom Nom Paleo” shirt (Christmas present from parents!) and made paleo stuffed peppers (in my brand new crockpot!), paleo pizza, and paleo brownies!!

Workout Recap!

For most of us, keeping a steady workout schedule this week has been rough, with travelling and holiday-ing…but I did try to get something in!

Monday and Tuesday, I just rowed 10k and did some pull-up practice each day.

**I can kip 1 full and beautiful pull-up now! then my hands hurt and I panic that I’m going to slide off the bar…BUT I’m closer!!!!

Wednesday: Matt and I did some deadlift work and followed up with an absolutely horrible WOD! I got 275# and kept good form with my belt AND my sweet olys 🙂

WOD:
5 Wall climbs
10 toes 2 bar
20 box jumps
(this WOD is supposed to be 10 wallclimbs, but time was limited, and OMG wall climbs suck)

Thursday Morning:
10 min AMRAP
40 DUs
30 push-ups
20 front squats (95/65)

4 rds of max reps, 1 min on, 1 min off each
parallette pass-throughs
lateral burpees

Thursday Evening: (competitors class)
8 min increasing reps (1,1…2,2…3,3..)
Push Press
KB swings (2 Pood, 55#)
**I ended on my 10th round! This was my FIRST time using a 55# KB…boom.

4rds of max reps, 1 min on 1 min off
parallette dips/pass through push-ups…I don’t have any idea what these are called…but they’re crazy hard. I got like…4.

lateral burpees (yes…twice in one day)

Friday: REST DAY!!! Eek, much needed!

Doing a double WOD day today…Soooooo I’ll recap my workouts tomorrow as usual. I’m in pain already. Eff you gluten and sugar, you make me sluggish and poofy…but you taste so yummy and I’ll be back to normal in a day or so 🙂

Thanks Paleo for turning me into a well-oiled machine and not allowing a short stint of cheat meals to ruin my hard work!

Christmas Week Recap

Hello again! It’s been awhile!

I was away for the weekend, then came back to Albany, sulked a bit about missing family Christmas time, then got a fantastic surprise 🙂

Recap!
Thursday– Flew to Pittsburgh!….spent WAY too much time in the airport (busted out some chair dips, pistol squats and fireman carries with Matt in Philly Airport!)
Friday-slept in and missed half the day thanks to the delayed flight! BUT we got to visit one of my favorite places!!!! (there isn’t one in Albany….yet!)

There was also a bit of running added to this because RAW is SO BIG! I love long WODs! I of course turned blue again…still haven’t figured that out. Then after the WOD we did a 5min AMRAP of 20 DUs and 12 OH squats (get it? for 2012) I did 20 DUs no problem, btw!!! It was awesome!

Sunday- back to Albany for me and Florida for Matt 😦
Monday– Worked!
Tuesday-Sat around pouting about being alone on Christmas until I went to the CrossFit box to meet up with a friend, only to find that Santa Clause brought me a BIG Present! Matt came home early!!!

IMG953127Then we saw Les Miserables and it was fantastic and I cried.

Oh…I got these for Christmas! NBD but someone got them for a great price off of Ebay from the 3rd place winner of the CrossFit Masters games! 🙂 They are probably infused with girl power. (And no, they were never worn/used, haha)

Lastly, I finished the 100k! I feel like that took forever…but I did it. Yay!

Gettin’ Better

Tomorrow, Matt ad I are flying to Pittsburgh to stay with my family for the weekend! I’m pretty excited, its been over 4 months since I last saw my family and then I was only home for like 48 hours! I’m going back to RAW for a drop in then some tweeters have been suggesting to me to check out other boxes too….but I really LOVE RAW…so we’ll see!

My pull-ups are getting better everyday! This morning’s WOD was:
4 rounds
10 ground to overhead (115/75)
then 3 rounds of Cindy (5 pullups, 10 puch-ups, 15 air squats)

I used the smallest band we have (purple!) and was able to kip! It’s a great feeling, I know I’m still scaling it, but I at least don’t end up in tears when my arms give out and I’m the last one on the bar! (like last week….)
Seriously…in one week I went from crying with a thicker band to flying with a smaller band thanks to the wonderful invention…kipping!

CollageOy the pain…this is what I do in my office after days of pull-ups and upper body work!

20121218_173407Matt and I got matching wrist wraps! (Like the company name Dan??)

They’re easy to put on and take off and were only $12! They really make my wrists feel secure and I feel I’ll be able to do overhead work with out that nagging wrist pain.

Has anyone every tried oil cleansing for their face? I wash my face with coconut oil every night. Sounds awful, right? Smells great and makes my face soft 🙂 So far, no breakouts and any acne scarring I had is fading…so far so good! Been doing it for about 2 weeks now!

Lastly, this was super interesting. It’s true, we do a lot of movements that are probably not good for us…and we do them a lot. Biggest fear would be the box jump one…ick. Of course, my only injury to date with a box jump has been a (broken?) jammed finger joint, that still hasn’t healed! (and actually was made worse thanks to volleyball Monday night!) Oh well, going to doctors takes time and then they restrict you.

 

All I want for Christmas…

I did lots of CrossFitting this weekend. Over 2 hours on both Saturday and Sunday… I did a 225# deadlift in a WOD, I kipped with a band and holy moley was it SO MUCH EASIER than going strict! Next stop no band! (Ok, lies…next stop skinniest band, THEN NO BAND!)  I also baked paleo snickerdoodles and pumpkin muffins…and normal people gluten-ful, brown butter perfect chocolate chip cookies.

Also, this has started to scare me…last week at the competition, everyone was screaming at me to breathe mid-WOD becasue I guess I was blue? This happens often, and has happened since I was playing volleyball in college. I don’t get dizzy, and of course I’m short of breath, I’m bustin my a$$, but I don’t feel like it’s any worse than anyone else….What’s wrong with me?! Can I just tell everyone to lay off, haha?!

Anyway, what do I want for Christmas?

1) To be able to do pull-ups (big surprise, right?)

2) a few lift PRs: Snatch (115#), Clean (165#), Squat (Break 200#!!)

3) Protein that won’t make me vomit or to be hungry enough to want to devour manly sized portions of meat post workout.

4) a six-pack…abs, not beer!

5) another competition to appear before the CrossFit Open starts

6) Tickets to Disney World and Harry Potter’s Wizarding World

7) Endurance to run a marathon

8) Oly shoes. I think they are crazy awesome and will help. It’s like legal cheating.

9) Less sensitive hands!

10) A lifetime supply of bacon and coconut butter.

Sounds easy enough? Ok so it’s kinda more a goal list (plus a few “things”), but if you have magical powers and can grant me these wishes (or want to train me to be able to do all of this, that would work!)

Lastly, rowing sucks when you’re busy! I am falling behind, but still determined to complete the 100k challenge! 64k right now! LOTS TO GO!!!! (guess where I will be Christmas eve? yep…in the box row, row, rowing.)

No idea why I titled this post that….that song is Soooooo last year. 😛

Have you ever heard of the Shenkle complex? we did it last night at competitors class! I got up to 135#, then attempted 145 and failed on my split jerk 😦

Other workouts this week include the evil pull-up one I told you about the other day, and:

Monday:
3 rep max Bench (125#…not my max, but all I had post competition)
then WOD
10,9,8,7,6….
Prisoner Squats
Ball Slams
Jumping Lunges
(so much worse than it looks!)

Tuesday:
A ton of double under and pistol work, then
WOD
8 min AMRAP
9 Double Unders/attempts
6 Handstand Push Ups/90 sec. Handstand Hold/push ups
3 Pistols (each leg)

In other news, pretty sure I convince Mr. Grizzly Strong and Twitter friend Jess to compete in the Albany CrossFit X’s and Y’s competition (you can’t back out now!) against Matt and I! Registration is not open yet, but it will be soon! I keep hearing about it!!!!  Maybe Melissa should get a partner and come up this way too!
